Transitional Style Decor Ideas

Transitional Style Decor Ideas

Transitional Style Decor Ideas, Transitional interior design is one of the most popular styles and has been for many years. In contrast to the stark minimalism that Mid-Century Modern spaces frequently embrace, Transitional designs are cozier and more calmly organized. They combine the old and the new in an original way that appears to be timeless.

A transitional interior is frequently cited by our clients as a source of design inspiration. This style can be interpreted in so many wonderful ways. We’re also describing the styles of Victoria Hagan and Thomas Pheasant, two of our favorite designers who create gorgeous transitional spaces.

Transitional Interior Design: What Is It?

Modern and traditional styles are combined in transitional interior design. Combining elements from various design genres results in a single design that gives the classics an updated look with a cohesive, modern feel. It strikes a balance between luxury and coziness, between masculine and feminine, and between old and new.

Similar to how black and white conflict and work so well together, these contradictions produce a feeling of tension in a room. The outcome is uncomplicated sophistication. Transitional interior design places a greater emphasis on comfort and softness than it does on form over function. The following are the essential elements of a transitional interior:

  1. comfortable, useful furniture
  2. neutral color schemes, such as cream and gray
  3. minimal jewelry (pops of color are acceptable!
  4. Soft, effective materials
  5. Textiles and materials from nature
  6. a fusion of male and female fashions

The difference between traditional and modern is bridged by transitional interior design, which avoids being stuffy or stark. This practical style, which uses larger-scale furnishings in plush, high-performance upholstery and emphasizes neutrals, is ideal for growing families.

Interior design for a transitional living room by Laura U Design Collective

In this formal sitting room, we adore how these upholstered antique benches look next to these sleek sofas.

Keys to the Transitional Color Palette for

The color scheme of a transitional design is tranquil and relaxing. The design is grounded and given a tidy backdrop by the use of whites, creams, grays, and tans. Deep blues, rich browns, and vibrant green accents give the design depth and make it pop.

Softness and subtlety should permeate the area. In a transitional interior, black walls are not permitted. Designers can concentrate more on texture and layering, which are essential elements of this style, by using neutral colors.

Laura U. Design Collective created this transitional interior with an antique console, modern art, and metallic accents.

This old-fashioned console gives this sleek, contemporary foyer some warmth.

Accessories for Transient Interior Design: Consider Functionality

You must choose transitional interior accessories that add visual interest, tell your story, and fit your way of life. Here, it’s important to include components that are significant and serve a purpose. Consider using trays, plants, area rugs, and decorative pillows.

Of course, layering in some metallic pieces is always a good idea. The space is made to feel opulent and sophisticated with the help of a statement light fixture, side table, or work of sculptural art. We adore the combination of warm fabrics and stylish metallic accents.

Textile Use and Layout

Transitional design makes use of texture and tone rather than color to establish contrast. Leather, chenille, and other materials like those are typical. Wood, glass, and rattan are some additional textural elements that add interest without detracting from the overall design.

While there are no hard-and-fast guidelines for creating a one-of-a-kind space, transitional interiors frequently rely more on layering than vibrant patterns. For instance, materials that share the same color family, such as glass, wood, and suede, may all be present together.

In a transitional living room, they would look stunning if they were all that lovely shade of cream. However, they mostly serve as decorative accents, like the pillows and artwork below.

A modern, low-profile sofa and plush accent chairs create a cozy and inviting living room.

Selection of transitional furnishings

Transitional furniture keeps the traditional shapes of modern styles while being updated with plush fabrics. Instead of using additional embellishments, they rely on delicate lines and curves to make a statement. They feel contemporary and new thanks to unexpected additions like lacquered finishes and graphic fabrics.

Antiques and traditional wood furniture are essential components of traditional interior design. A stunning interpretation of the transitional combination is to pair a traditional statement piece, such as a wood dining table, with curved dining chairs.

Furniture is frequently arranged in groups to create conversation areas. The room feels cozy and intimate thanks to the large sofas and spacious accent chairs. While maintaining the flow, furniture grounds the design by producing a useful focal point.

The bar stools’ striking, vivid fabric, which was created by our client, brings a lovely splash of color to her kitchen design.

Key Transitional Interior Designers

You aren’t constrained to a single design aesthetic, which is one of the appeals of transitional design. It combines client-specific and personally identifiable styles. Here are a few designers I admire who are currently using this look.

VIVIAN HAGAN

We adore the way Victoria Hagan creates her transitional interiors using high-quality materials, tasteful color schemes, and furnishings with eye-catching silhouettes. Her designs are based on a neutral color scheme, but she adds pops of rich, vibrant color to give them personality and a contemporary feel.

Warm and inviting spaces feature cozy seating areas with traditional-style sofas and distinctive accent chairs. Her creations are timeless, luxurious, and unpretentious.

PHEASANT, Thomas

Thomas Pheasant does an amazing job designing clean, sophisticated transitional interiors. We adore the way he uses white paint to give classic elements like millwork and ceiling designs a contemporary feel.

In order to create stunning lines of symmetry that subtly move your eye around the space, he combines curved and straight lines. And he doesn’t use neutral color schemes in a boring way! He demonstrates how neutral colors can make a powerful statement.

This master suite benefits from a calm color scheme of cream, gray, and subtle hints of calming blue.

Transitional Design’s Beauty

We might be a little partial, but our team excels at transitional design. Understanding our clients’ family histories is an important part of our design process because transitional design focuses on blending traditional and modern elements.

A timeless, collected interior that tells your individual story is made by layering family heirlooms or special items with contemporary ones.

The contemporary artwork and metallic sculpture bring a striking element to this cozy family room.

A Creekside Home

We incorporated our client’s collection of antiques with sleek-lined sofas and chairs in this Creekside home. To go with the exposed brick and classic hardwood floors, we selected a neutral color scheme of whites and creams.

Accents in cobalt blue add visual depth while establishing a calm and relaxing atmosphere. The design is given personality by metallic accents, stylish light fixtures, and vibrant art without detracting from the furnishings.

This dining room has a casual yet opulent feel thanks to the bright, graphic fabric, herringbone hardwood floors, and the natural stone light fixture.

HOME MACGREGOR

We used our client’s beautiful collection of textiles and fabrics all over her MacGregor home. The dining room and kitchen have a contemporary feel thanks to the bold, vibrant upholstery on the traditional-style chairs.

The white color scheme of the design is contrasted with hints of black and brown. Wood, natural stone, and brick accents give the room depth and warmth. Metallic layers added to the design’s accessories give it a glam, feminine vibe while mellowing its strongly masculine lines.

This stunning entryway is given a collected, international feel by the white tabletop accessories.

BROWNWOOD ESTATE

Our clients wanted an interior design for the Whitehill Estate project that updated the traditional architecture of the house. The black-and-white color scheme makes the traditional ironwork on the stairs and antique accessories feel modern and timeless.

The sharp lines of the furniture are softened and given more depth by colorful accessories. I adore the depth that the navy and green accents give this casual yet refined space. There is plenty of seating without disrupting the flow in the family room and living room thanks to comfortable seating arrangements.

The cozy seating areas, the stunning wood paneling, the contemporary chandelier…

What we adore most about this space is up for debate!

WILLOWICK HOUSE

The open-concept floor plan of this Willowick home, which required a complete renovation, gave us the opportunity to transform it into something elegant and stylish. The home had a very traditional feel thanks to the double-height library with wood paneling and the corridor looking out onto the gardens.

The area was given a clean, contemporary look by refinishing the wood panels and converting the corridor into an art gallery. In a classically contemporary way, modernized crystal chandeliers, striking marble floors, and counters pay homage to classic design elements.

The more masculine and geometric designs are given a feminine touch by colorful artwork and metallic accessories.

We adore how the modern art in our client’s collection stands out against the dark walls. It’s a fresh approach to giving your home a museum-like feel for art display.
